Exhausted humor

Daylight Savings Time kicks my ass. It does every year. It exhausts me. I can't get to sleep when I should. I can't wake up when I should. Or I don't sleep at all for three days, and then the fog takes me.

That's where I am now. In the fog. The thick, thick fog.

One of the things I do these days, about every other week, is go through my Friends List and see who's picked me up. It's this thing. This thing I do. Because I like to know. And when someone's picked me up, I often will pick them back up. It just seems polite. (It's not 100%, but still.)

And I was going through the list today, and clicked over to the bio of one of the new readers, and this jumped out at me:

"Technical Editor: By day I translate Engineer into English for a large company."

My brain, fogbound as it is, immediately came back with "and by Night... I am AGENT-J!"

Bonus points to anyone who gets the reference.

This is where my brain is right now.

On the plus side, I've gotten some INCREDIBLY EXCITING POTENTIAL RPG NEWS I literally can't talk about because, Dude. NDA, if it even becomes a go. But needless to say, it's a happy fog.

Heh.

Something tells me you're going to get Friended by a lot of people in the next couple of days.

I was in a happy fog the other night myself. I felt really relaxed and just hoovered half a barrel a pretzels, three swiss cake rolls, and half a roll of chips ahoy. Also we were analyzing Batman: The Animated Series. I came to an interesting conclusion.

There were two things that were always major questions in BTAS.
1) Why are Batmans Shoulders so goddamned huge?
2) Why does his cape instantly regenerate every time it gets riddled with bullets?

Deep questions, bever before had I thought that they were related. Notice the jagged edges at the base of Batman's cape? Those aren't for style. Those are perforated edges. Every time he yanks off his cape, he can pull out a new one... from the Automatic Cape Disepenser hidden in his shoulders!

Huh? Huuuuuh?

By day it's an ordinary tuna casserole, but at night it becomes...

*click!*

Agent J...

I live in Arizona. In your FACE, daylight savings time!

The extra bonus we get for living in Arizona: "Snow? What snow?"

Okay, southern Arizona.

Oh, you people in America catch on soooo late. We had daylight savings lag a week before you peasants.

We also get Dr. Who. Yes, truly the marks of advanced civilization.

Last year somebody tried to pass a law that would make it Daylight Savings Time all year long. The motion failed, I like to think due to Doctor-esque machinations to preserve the timestream.

[identity profile] cpip.livejournal.com 2005-04-06 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Noooooooooooo! The timestream is already wrinkled horribly! We need to starch it straight!

Unfortunately it looks like yet again australia is left of the screening list of new series (we're still playing every episode of the old one again) but getting dr who is easy as the world has gotten "smaller". Go Bittorrent!
btw, the only thing I can think of in refrence to your quote eric is "lets get dangerous" which is sad, really bloody sad.

sorry for hijacking your post weds, but I can't resist the chance to comment on the good doctor.

Australia's getting it. Just a little later. Basically, everyone who speaks English except the Americans, so far as I can tell, is getting it.

So, y'know, in time.

Yeah, no kidding. There's, like, fourteen zillibillion alternative universim out there and stuff, and, in at least one of them, I don't have to vacuum this apartment.

Let's get that one.

Of course, the downside of living someplace with no snow is that you don't get snow.

I am that Technical Editor. Alas, I don't get the "AGENT-J" bit. Please explain?

By night I write weird porn.

Heaps of burned rubble can be quite comfy, and so stylish with the right accessories! Just a gentle dusting of ash...

The incredibly hot women wearing shorts and t-shirts in March make up for it.

Speaking as an engineer who used to do Technical Translation, I've found that translating Engineer TO Weird Porn is strangely satisfying.

Also, all five campaigns on your userinfo seem to rock (I'm partial to the THS myself, but the Steampunk wins you mad props as well).

Is that a real place? I've always just assumed someone made it up. You know, like Belgium.

[identity profile] elvedril.livejournal.com 2005-04-06 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Out of curiosity, what does friends mean when you get to the point where you have over 200 people on your friends list? It would be pretty much impossible to actually keep up with reading all of those, so I imagine you probably have the list cut up into groups only some of which you check with regularity. Is it something like that? It's one of the things about livejournal etiquette that I haven't figured out yet.

They would have to be very incredibly hot.

As in, actually generating the heat which causes the lack of snow.

Snow is necessary. Also, sweaters.

Oh, yeah. It's just the rest of the prairies which don't actually exist. Calgary is actually just part of Montana that won't cop to the matter.

Incidentally, "didn't sleep at all for three days" is something you should /tell your webthing/ before she /keeps you up late/ and /complains at you/.

[identity profile] sinless.livejournal.com 2005-04-07 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Does that mean that Montana extends almost all the way to Deadhorse? That would be creepy.

[identity profile] sinless.livejournal.com 2005-04-07 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds like logic. Logic isn't usually around after being awake 3 days, as it went to bed 2 days ago and is going to stay there until the meat joins it.

Okay. Point.

I'm just *saying*, you know, it should, like, go on the wall or the fridge with the other rules, or next to the "how to order pizza" guide (we actually have the latter in our house for people to follow so that they stop asking questions -- we are so all about the documentation).

Hrm. Hand lettered?

I'm just glad I can point to his name and say 'See see! I'm not a completely pathetic loser! Someone put me on their friends list!'

just kidding :)

You can stick friends in groups, which allows you to both select which groups you are viewing, and also restrict 'friends only' posts to certain subgroups of friends.

I would certainly consider putting anyone who put me on their friend's list on mine, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. That I have not been 'friended' by most of the people I have on my list doesn't bother me at all. I'm not sure what the 'unofficial etiquette' is though.

[identity profile] lonecow.livejournal.com 2005-04-08 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, this is the point where I COULD cackle evilly and say "being (near) friendless can be a good thing!"

But who wants to admit to stuff like being (near) friendless?

Even if it does mean you can add back everyone who adds you without worrying about having huge loads of posts to trawl through... Though I do like to read quite a few previous posts of the said individual before they pass my careful screening/vetting tests. (I read the first line, and then pounce on them!) :D

[identity profile] the-zaniak.livejournal.com 2005-04-10 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I go with the "Groups" thing. Right now I have 6 groups. :D

[identity profile] the-zaniak.livejournal.com 2005-04-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Woo! You read my LJ now.

Actually, do you actually read each of them, actually? Or do you actually...not, actually?
