Actually, yes we can complain. Just because it's free dosn't mean the audience isn't allowed to voice an opinion when things start to change. But it also means that Eric has nothing forcing him to respond to the complaints. Most of the audience of websnark hopped on board because of the webcomic focus. It has become a decently large part of the webcomic community. If the focus changes, then it is bound to lose some of the audience it picked it up. Websnark drew me in because it was well-written essays and comments on a topic I was interested in. If it changes from that, I have the right to comment on it and to stop reading it, but again, it doesn't mean Eric has to change.
I do miss getting several posts a day commenting on specific web comics. I picked up a good dozen strips because of Websnark, so I miss getting that lead in to new comics. But I'm still enjoying reading about whatever's written there (though Weds whole series on the Chick Tracts made me go 'Huh?').
Of course, anything in public view is in danger of getting over analyzed, and I think that Websnark just hit that benchmark. ;)
