The Very Quick Play-Count Meme

For this little three-question game you'll need some sort of play-count record on your mp3 library. No guessing!

1) What's the most-played track in your mp3 collection, and how many times has it been played?
"Baba Yet", Christopher Tin, Civilization IV Soundtrack: 86

2) Divide that play count in half and round up. What's the nearest song?
"Life'll Kill Ya," Warren Zevon, Life'll Killya: 43

3) Divide that play count in half, and round up again.
At 22 and 21, we have a quarter ton of stuff, but almost all of it is Warren Zevon, with exceptions. In order of the tracking we have:

22 Plays:
"When I Fall" (Barenaked Ladies)
"One Week" (Barenaked Ladies)
"Never is Enough" (Barenaked Ladies)
"The King Must Die" (Elton John -- Live in Australia version)
"Storyteller" (Heather Alexander)
"Under Pressure" (Queen)
"Eyes of a Child" (South Park)
"Good Love" (South Park)
"Frozen Notes" (Zevon)
"Let Nothing Come Between You" (Zevon)
"Detox Mansion" (Zevon)
"Monkey Wash Donkey Rinse" (Zevon)
"Mr. Bad Example" (Zevon - Learning to Flinch version)
"Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" (Zevon - Learning to Flinch version)
"Hostage-o" (Zevon)
"Renegade" (Zevon)
"Searching for a Heart" (Zevon)
"Laissez-Moi Tranquille" (Zevon)
"Mohammed's Radio" (Zevon)
21 Plays
"Stranger Than Fiction" (Bad Religion)
"We Didn't Start The Fire" (Billy Joel)
"Pressure" (Billy Joel)
"My Ride's Here" (Springsteen Covering Zevon)
"Astroboy (And The Proles On Parade)" (Buggles)
"For Boston" (Dropkick Murphys)
"Which Side Are You On?" (Dropkick Murphys)
"The Final Countdown" (Europe -- god help me, I'm a child of the 80's)
"Bat Out of Hell" (Meat Loaf)
"Do What John" (Monty Python)
"Excitable Boy" (Zevon)
"Run Straight Down" (Zevon)
"The Long Arm of the Law" (Zevon)
"The French Inhaler" (Zevon)
"Lawyers Guns and Money" (Zevon - Learning to Flinch Version)
"For My Next Trick I'll Need a Volunteer" (Zevon)

4) Care to explain yourself?

Not a lot to explain in the first -- the program tracks plays off the iPod, and I play "Baba Yet" when I'm driving and thinking about stories. It's a perfect piece to let you paint scenes in your mind. So it gets a workout, even though I doubt it would make a top ten songs list I came up with.

As for the rest -- my Zevon obsession is well tracked. Though interestingly, looking at the top ten played songs on the program, Zevon only comes in at #6 ("Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)", at 52 plays). Most of the things above it are also inspirational/writing/driving and thinking songs, so they get more play much the same way that the incidental music shows up on a soundtrack a lot more than the big hit. Though I find it interesting that 'Heroes from our Past" by the Dropkick Murphys is third. But then, I loves me some Dropkick Murphys.

Zevon would also track higher if I only had one version of each of his songs, but I don't. I have like five different versions of "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner," for example. The songs of Zevon that make the top twenty slots are the ones I either vastly prefer one version of over all others (like the Learning to Flinch versions of "Piano Fighter" and "Splendid Isolation") or ones that only appear on a single Zevon album (which is why the Hockey Song gets such a high ranking.)
