I don't see it as any great loss, personally - I'll most likely never watch OWN, but then, I never watch Discovery Health any more either. Apart from reruns of Paramedics (and I've seen all of those), there was nothing on there that interested me last time I looked. It had joined The So-Called Learning Channel on the "you're not fulfilling your part of the social contract if you're not pairing off and getting busy" bandwagon - TLC was wall-to-wall shows about dating and getting married, and DHC seemed to be mostly shows about babies. Gone were the days when a person surfing channels might be caught unawares by horrifying video of knee surgery in progress on The Operation.

Actually, that might not have been an entirely bad thing, now that I think about it. :)

Admittedly, things might have changed since then - I haven't put my head in that particular door for several years now, so disturbed was I by the direction I saw things taking last time I checked. Still, I can think of more jarring transformations undergone by cable channels. The Nashville Network's bizarre metamorphosis into Spike TV ("The Anti-Lifetime") springs to mind...

For a while, it seemed like every time I checked to see if there was anything interesting on DHC, they were showing partially blurred breasts during breast augmentation surgery. I can see plenty of unblurred breasts on the internet, so I eventually removed it from the pre-programs on my TV. :)

The only thing I am going to really miss is Dr. G, the Medical Examiner and some of the forensic anthropology shows. :\

A friend posted this on her blog a few days ago, and I'll say here what I said there: Why the hell does she need ANOTHER network? She's already got Oxygen, so why the fuck does she need another one? I liked Discovery Health. But maybe my cable company will replace it with Investigate Discovery.

Oh, and off-topic (But inline with another of your recent posts) I dug out the old Power Rangers poll from my time on Prodigy and tossed it up on my blog a few weeks ago. I think a lot of people missed it, because I posted it at an odd time.
