Fuckers.

So, I'd recently gotten into The Next Food Network Star. I hadn't seen season 3, and they'd started rebroadcasting it on Fine Living Network. (Fine Living Network -- what Food Network looks down on.) So, cool. I set my season pass, and each week another "new to me" hour of cooking and pathos showed up.

Well. I watched last night's episode... and it was a terrible episode. Everything was breakneck speed, nothing was being developed, things were just being sprung left and right. And then they moved to elimination... nineteen minutes in.

Clearly, the rebroadcasts aren't doing well, so they'd decided to edit them to half an hour and get them over with.

And so, it went from one of the best reality type shows on television to one of the worst half hours on television period.

I went to iTunes. It's not available for sale.

I went to Amazon Unbox. It's not available for sale.

I looked for DVDs. They're not available for sale.

I checked the website. No episodes available for watching.

This right here? This is why people fucking pirate television, idiots. It's not that we're evil. It's not that we're cheap. It's that we actually want to watch your shows and you either don't make them available, or you fuck them up when you do, and you don't give us options to spend money on the legitimate outlets for them. I don't know if I'll bother actually trying to find a torrent of them or anything (I'd need to actually get torrenting software first, and I'm not sure I can be bothered), but I promise you that I'm way lazy enough to spend money on them if you'd fucking let me.

Or, you know, you could actually show the full episodes the way you started to do, idiots. Then I'd watch them on your fucking network in the first place.

(Do I seem disproportionately angry? That's because I hate fucking stupidity. And I'm a dork.)

I'm still waiting for my Avatar episodes. They show them in Canada, but not here, and so they're not on US iTunes, so... Hi, YouTube! Lemme find the episodes that I already paid for! (Because, I should note, I started watching Avatar on YouTube and decided that "heck with this, I want high-quality stuff delivered ASAP!" so I'd pay for it...)

There is no "Next Food Network Star" on Youtube or Google Video. I mean, the Hell? I thought those things were universal!

YOUTUBE LACKS???!!!!

*faints*

And, seriously, my condolences.

I'm confused. You already paid for the episodes? Then why don't you have them already?

Or is it just that the DVDs haven't arrived yet?

(I'm waiting on the first two season box sets of Avatar to arrive in my mailbox on DVD, and will order box 3 when it comes out in September…)

I paid for the episodes in the form of a Season Pass, on iTunes. That means that a day or two after it airs -- in the US -- I can download the episodes.

But the RAZZIN'FRAZZIN'GALDANGED episodes haven't shown yet in the US! There are THREE, at LEAST, which have shown in Canada (hi, YouTube!), but till they show in the US? No can see. And that's going to be, I hear tell, in FREAKIN' JUNE.

Thanks the gods for YouTube. I'm not even going to feel guilty. I paid for these episodes, and ahead of time, even.

Why buy the season pass? I mean, honestly, you're paying as much as you would for the DVD set, and you're getting the episodes in DRM-crippled format only watchable on your computer or iPod (and to add insult to injury, you can't do anything else on your computer while you're watching them, because iTunes blanks all the monitors that aren't showing the video—I mean, what the HELL, Apple??) and you're not getting any of the extras or the extras disc.

My season 1 & 2 box sets arrived today, and I've been having fun going through the extras. I'll be shelling out for season 3 come September. And I won't feel guilty about how I watch them in the interim either, because I'm going to pay for every one of those episodes as soon as they're available in a format that is acceptable to me.

Oh, and June? Unless something new has come out in the last day or so, and I think it would be all over the forums on avatarspirit.net if it had, try freaking July 14th. (http://forums.avatarspirit.net/index.php?topic=12489.0) (Nickelodeon's website had the date up very briefly a few days ago, then removed it, and TV commercials have lately been airing just saying Avatar returns in July.)

Ha! Thread necromancy!

I don't have to go shopping to get the DVD. I don't have to drive to the Mall, I don't have to pay shipping and handling, and it's delivered as fast -- or was, in the past -- as if I were watching it on the TV. (I don't watch TV.)

And iTunes doesn't blank all the monitors that aren't showing it; I can, and have, watched it in Windowed mode. I generally prefer to set it full-screen, because I like it bigger, and the kid usually sits on my lap and watches it as well. (So I wouldn't be getting anything else done anyway because of Kidness.)

I miss the extras, true, but not hard enough to want to drive to the store to get 'em.

I'm poking iTunes now, though. The DVD's out that has these four episodes on it. Where's the iTunes episodes? *poke*poke*poke*

Yeah, but who pays shipping anymore? Amazon doesn't charge it on orders over $25, and DeepDiscount.com doesn't charge it at all. The delay to receive it is a point, but good things come to those who wait—and until they do arrive, there's BitTorrent. :)

And iTunes doesn't blank all the monitors that aren't showing it;

Maybe it doesn't for you; you're probably on a Mac. But it sure does for me on Windows.

I wouldn't get 'em at the store anyway—they're cheaper online.

Gooood question.

This is why people fucking pirate television, idiots.

I'm in that choir, singing those praises, brother.

Arrrr! Strike ye colors CW!

[identity profile] amigoid.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
And stupidio grande' "the WB channel, now called the CW" (WTH?), has beauty and the geek available on their website, BUT NOT SMALLVILLE.

Yeah, I'll still get the DVD's for Smallville, so they'll get the money. BUT WHEN I MISS AN EPISODE? Meh. off to hunt for a torrent.
Not because I WANT TO, but because there is no other option ('cept maybe waiting for it to show up in re-run rotation). And they could have me as a captive audience with their inserted web ads and steaming video ads. (Note I did not mis-spell that.) Steaming pile...

And yes, I watch Beauty and the Geek, and Smallville. All of the episodes, from the beginning. And Cloe rocks. One more season folks.

Hell No, I won't Tivo. I don't want to watch MORE TV, just the stuff I want. VCR works just fine, and I don't have to let big brother know my viewing habits. I know that seems to be a really luddite attitude, but the only DVR I want is one I built with no "strings" attached.

Which reminds me... I need to see if anyone has a torrent for the old 60's batman series. Amazing that its still not available on DVD. Yeah. What Sabre said.

CW just recently announced a WBonline network. Two of the shows that will be part of it mentioned were Smallville and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. No idea on quality or what not...

The funny part? The news declared kidswb.com and thewb.com as NEW websites. They aren't new! When WB still had a separate network, they were the sites used! WTF?

Well, there's always the MythTV.

I am about *this* close to doing a commando raid on MTV to get them to release the original masters for "Sifl n' Olly". Also, someone really needs to memo Disney about releasing DVDs of their television-only stuff.
