The Old Man in the Mountain, the natural formation that is a symbol of New Hampshire, the inspiration of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Great Stone Face," sits on my license plate, our state quarter, and rested about eighty miles north of where I live, just off the White Mountains National Forest, has collapsed. Looking at the granite cliff now, one sees only stone. God has left the mountain, and wonder has left the Earth.

I saw it just once, driving through the National Forest after a conference up in Northern new Hampshire. It was majestic. When I came home, I wrote it up as a Davidian Tether for In Nomine. I suppose I should write up the tether collapse.

I wonder if we'll change the license plates, the road signs and the like now. I kind of hope not, but we'll see.
