It's the weirdest little small things that make you happy for a major transition.

We're moving Websnark (to Dreamhost -- thanks to everyone who suggested. Dreamhost worked out to be the best one price-and-service wise). And I was stunned at how... functional the web configuration panel was (Pair was baroque at best -- designed to make business people very happy, I suppose). I've been doing the bits and pieces that are necessary to make the transition smooth.

It's worth noting [livejournal.com profile] weds is more qualified than I am to do any of this, and she will in fact be doing all the tweaking after this, but I need to do the initial runthrough... mostly so that I actually have it in my brain how it all works. I need that, among other things because I have to do another six or seven transitions after Websnark is done, but Websnark is the priority.

Anyway, so I'm getting ready to FTP. Now, once the website is fully 'transitioned' DNS wise, we'll be able to FTP to "websnark.com," which is itself a monumental step forward. Pair was weird about such things. But right now, getting it configured, I'm getting ready to upload to my general 'account...'

And... I'm connecting to a comprehensible name. It's the equivalent of uploading to 'jonathan.dreamhost.com' (it's not -- but I don't want to mess with their security by posting the address publicly, which is likely silly as Hell of me but there you are).

Pair was always a nearly random series of letters for their servers. It drove me insane.

So. Yeah. This makes me happy.

Oh, and the fact that my MT URL will be the same as my website URL makes me thrilled. For one thing, Windows Internet Explorer users should be able to freaking comment now.

We could comment. It just involved oddness. We had to agree to share, then after being denied a log in, agree not to share...

Or something...

Hooray! Better functionality! Hooray for commenting!

I think it's obvious to the entire universe that this particular Windows Internet Explorer user never had any trouble commenting, but I am glad the problems will most likely go away for others.

What? Me? Talk too much? Never. (cough)
