I have to admit one thing. The Embedding (what a term) of journalists into units on the lines doesn't just put warfare into prime time. It represents a tremendous step forward since the first Gulf War, when information was entirely controlled by the Pentagon and combat was something our generals told our credulous reporters about.

By the end of this war... if nothing else, we as a culture will know exactly what we have done. For bad and for good. That is a good thing.

In the meantime, the protests are in full force, as are the antiprotests. Some protesters are fully denying any reality over this tragic situation -- and denying the fact that one cannot simply stop a war once it is started. It must be finished, one way or another, and our hope now must be for a swift completion and a swift reintroduction of the international community before we begin empire building.

As for the antiprotesters -- the ones who chortle with glee at any right wing variation on giving peace a chance at gunpoint or the like -- I swiftly lose all respect for them. If you hate America so much that you take glee in the pain of others, be those others our enemies or those who protest the war, then you're a big, big part of the reason the civilized world hates us. Thank you so much, and don't stand so close to me.
