Things are okay these days. Yes, we're still in the appeals process, but I've got all my ducks in a row for that. I have multiple doctors, plan administrators, and other such folks working on the HMO. With luck that will help.

Last week was a monster week, but this week seems to be coming together nicely so far. It started with an excellent weekend. The highlight of the weekend was heading down to an outdoor pavilion called the Meadowbrook Farm, and seeing Meat Loaf in what he says is his last world tour.

The grounds are wonderful -- beautiful and pastoral, with almost a country fair feel to them. The fair aspect was enhanced by the food booths, which looked exactly like every carnival ground food booth ever seen anywhere. There was also the shark.

The shark was about thirty feet high and inflatable. It wore sunglasses and held a giant inflatable guitar. It was apparently the mascot of a local radio station, and it didn't look structurally stable when we went in. This was apparently borne out later, since when the radio station guys got up on stage to welcome us to the Meadowbrook, shill for the food and souvenir booths, and talk about the United Way, they also apologized for the shark and hoped it didn't land on anybody. "It's more trouble than it's worth," one of them said, which might not be the attitude the radio station was looking for.

We had lawn seating, which rested on the hill behind the pavilion. So, en route to the farm, we stopped at WalMart and grabbed camp chairs. We got in early, and got second row of the lawn. And then we had food and waited.

The wait was pleasant -- the heat wave had broken, and there was an excellent breeze blowing. We really were in the outdoors, and that was nice. And then, as the sun went down, the concert kicked in. They launched into "Life Is A Lemon (and I want my money back)" and the crowd got into it. Meat's voice shook a bit, and it sounded like he was having pitch problems, but the attitude was perfect. The first several songs were a blend of classics and new stuff off the new album -- which, it should be said, sounded great. Meat did better on the new songs, which makes me think he knows the limitations of his voice after thirty odd years of concerts.

Still, as the night progressed, his voice got stronger as he got warmed up, and by the time he did some of the classics late in the concert, he was strong and the Meat Loaf of old returned. He did a good block of stuff off of Bat, Bat II and some of the others. And if Meat Loaf shows some of the signs of age, his duet partner Patti Russo was note perfect and full of attitude.

It got chilly in there, but a cheap blanket took the edge off that. I spent too much money on an autographed copy of the single/EP they had for sale at the venue, getting four of his new songs early. They're good songs.

And I had fun just hanging out with Van and [livejournal.com profile] frobozz. They're very good people, and they were the ones spearheading the trip. Otherwise, I just kind of laid low and recharged over the weekend, and I needed that pretty badly.

So, I'm feeling good today.
