It's official

On Thursday, February 19, at 11 am, I go for a Preadmission Consult and Anesthesia Consult, to get some things out of the way and make sure I can breathe during the procedure itself.
By Sunday, February 22, I am to have started a liquid diet designed to reduce the size of my liver to facilitate the procedure. They also do a liver biopsy during the procedure itself, just to make sure everything's cool.
On Wednesday, March 3... I have my Surgery.
The insurance is approved.
The date is confirmed.
I will have it that day. Period. It's done. It's all done. It's done.
For some weeks afterward, I will recover and begin the prescribed exercises. I will be on an all liquid diet while my stomach heals. Then, I will slowly phase in pureed foods, almost like a baby, almost like being reborn. And slowly, I'll go on solids in an entirely new way to accommodate my new stomach, capacity and lifestyle?
And then?
And then I live the rest of my life.
I've said it before, but you can't understand what these words mean unless you've lived it. Some of you have, for reasons similar or different than I do, so you'll forgive me if I repeat it.
I get to live.
And I get to enjoy it.
This is where the fun starts.

Date: 2004-02-02 07:49 am (UTC)My problems are in a head full of loose wiring, and in the bad patch-jobs I've done over the years to compensate, but I think I can relate a little.
I get to live.
And I get to enjoy it.
Congratulations, and I hope to join you soon.

Date: 2004-02-02 08:28 am (UTC)I don't need svelte, though. I'll be happy with "able to sleep in a normal bed, able to climb stairs without pauses, able to fit in normal chairs, able to stand more than ten minutes, able to reduce or eliminate medication for multiple conditions...."
In short, I don't care if I'm pretty. I just want to be happy. :) And alive. And this is my shot. And it's OFFICIAL!
